With a mixture of excitement and some nerves, the Year 8's set off on their journey to camp at the Lea Scout Centre in Kingston in the final week of Term 1. After several hours on the road and a short stop in Campbell Town, we arrived at our campsite and made ourselves at home. Monday afternoon was filled with team activities, including competitive yet light-hearted games of volleyball and rehearsals of team chants. Many students’ highlight from the first day was the annual game of Grug after dinner, which had students searching for torch pieces in the dark while being chased by a pair of grumpy Grugs (a role that the staff relished!).
On Tuesday we kicked off with some more activities at our campsite. Students presented their team chants and enjoyed cheering their teammates on in Minute to Win It challenges. Another highlight of Year 8 camp was the on-site activity rotations. Students participated in rock climbing, abseiling, flying fox, low ropes and team challenges. Our students showed courage and camaraderie as they attempted these challenges, and many students surprised themselves by successfully completing the rock climbing despite their initial reservations. Our second day finished on a high note with a campfire complete with singalongs and toasted marshmallows.
Even with all the action and excitement of the first two days, Wednesday proved to be the busiest day yet! Students piled onto the buses to travel into Hobart city to complete a scavenger hunt around the city. With staff supervision, students were responsible for decoding clues, navigating the city and answering riddles. At the end, students were rewarded with a pizza lunch. After returning to camp, we then participated in an archery session on site. Our students showed great promise and improvement in their accuracy throughout the sessions! We capped off our busy day with a movie night, complete with tasty snacks.
Two buses full of tired students made their way home on Thursday and we are sure that they rested well that night! We are very proud of the way our students participated in camp activities and represented DCS in the community. A huge thank you to the staff who attended and made this such a successful and memorable camp: Mrs Rachel de Bruyn, Mr Miles, Mr Upton, Mr Scott, Miss Mann, Miss Atkins, Mrs Alana de Bruyn, Mr Atchison, Mrs Atchison and Mr Watson. Their enthusiasm and care for our students is unparalleled!

Our VET Hospitality students have had a fantastic term developing their practical skills and industry knowledge through the units SITXFSA005 (Use hygienic practices for food safety) and SITXWHS005 (Participate in safe work practices). They have been busy in the kitchen preparing a wide range of delicious dishes, including minestrone soup, fresh bread rolls, chicken stir-fry, chicken burgers, pancit noodles, chicken Inasal, and fish and chips. Through these hands-on experiences, students have been learning how to safely handle food, keep their work areas clean and organised, and understand what is expected in a real workplace.
It has been wonderful to see students grow in confidence, teamwork, and responsibility as the term has progressed. The meals they have created reflect not only their developing skills but also their willingness to persevere and take pride in their work. In our Christian learning environment, we continue to encourage students to serve others with care, integrity, and excellence. It has been a joy to watch them support one another, take ownership of their learning, and give their best in each practical lesson.

Our wonderful DCS Community has a great opportunity to bless our Secondary students every Thursday with yummy breakfast snacks.
This is a lovely way for Secondary students to start their day well, enjoying fresh fruit and muffins in a welcoming environment.
All Secondary students are warmly invited to attend, we would love to see you there!
8.05am-8.25am every Thursday.

A reminder to our Year 7 students and families that our Rise and Shine Breakfast is happening on Thursday 14th May from 7:30am to 8:30am.
The move from primary to secondary is a big step - not just for students, but for parents too. In the busyness of new routines and changing structures, it is easy to lose the sense of connection with other families and with your child’s teachers. We want to make sure that doesn’t happen.
This breakfast is a chance to pause and reconnect. You will share a relaxed morning with your child, meet other parents, and get to know some of the teachers and support staff who are walking alongside them in this new season. Students will also guide you through a short task they have prepared, giving you a glimpse into what they have been learning and how they are settling in.
We have intentionally timed this early in the day so you can hopefully come by on your way to work. Siblings are very welcome—we would love to see the whole family if that makes it easier for you to join us.

DCS is actively partnering with our colleagues at Leighland Christian School to provide information and experiences that will support our Year 10 students as they consider continuing their education in Years 11 and 12 at Leighland.
Over the course of this year Leighland team members will be visiting DCS to connect with our senior students. And our DCS students will be invited to Leighland activities and events to enhance these connections.
Families exploring Year 11 and 12 options for 2027 are strongly encouraged to book a tour at Leighland Christian School for further information.
