Year 11 Pathways in Faith Project - Insect Hotels
As part of their Pathways in Faith project, Year 11 students Shannon Baker and Fletcher Robinson are building insect hotels.
The goal is to create nesting sites for local insects. The hotels will be filled with hollow wooden tubes, bark and other natural materials to create suitable niches for a variety of species.
Year 9 Food Studies
As part of our Food Waste unit, Year 9 Food Studies students prepared homemade spanakopita while considering ways to reduce food waste in the kitchen. Students discussed how careful planning, correct storage, and making the most of available ingredients can help prevent unnecessary waste. The practical lesson provided an opportunity for students to develop their cooking skills while reflecting on the environmental and economic impacts of food waste.
VCE VM Students Give Back at Ronald McDonald House
Our Year 12 VCE VM students recently returned to Ronald McDonald House Clayton as part of our ongoing partnership with this wonderful organisation.
We were welcomed back with open arms and once again had the opportunity to support families staying at the House during some of the most challenging and uncertain times in their lives. Our students spent the day preparing meals for families, helping to relieve a little of the day-to-day pressure that comes with having a seriously ill child in hospital.
For our students, it was an incredibly rewarding experience. They were able to see firsthand how small acts of kindness and practical support can make a meaningful difference to families when they need it most.
We are incredibly proud of our VCE VM students for continuing to demonstrate what it means to be leaders within their community. Their willingness to give their time, contribute to others and approach the experience with genuine care and compassion is something to be celebrated.
We sincerely thank Ronald McDonald House Clayton for welcoming our students and for the incredible work they do for families every day. We hope the spirit of generosity and community service demonstrated by our students continues to follow them long after they leave our school community.
Year 12 Biology Revision Lecture
Our Year 12 Biology students recently joined approximately 100 VCE Biology students from across the region for a revision lecture at Leongatha Secondary College, hosted by renowned science educator Andrew Douch.
The session provided an engaging opportunity for students to consolidate their Biology knowledge, revisit key concepts and develop strategies for approaching their upcoming VCE assessments. Andrew’s enthusiasm and expertise made the complex content accessible and memorable, while his practical advice encouraged students to think carefully about how they apply their knowledge in examinations.
It was a valuable opportunity for our students to learn alongside other Biology students from across the region and benefit from the experience of a highly regarded VCE educator.
We thank Leongatha Secondary College for hosting the event and Andrew Douch for sharing his expertise with our students as they prepare for the final stages of their VCE Biology studies.
Year 9 Food Technology
This week, our Year 9 Food Technology students made fresh rice paper rolls while developing their knife skills, with a focus on mastering the julienne cut. Students also explored ways to minimise food waste by making the most of their ingredients and considering how preparation and presentation can contribute to reducing waste.
