SSV GWR Year 8 Boys Cricket

On Tuesday 28th October BHS took our Year 8 Boys to the SSV Greater Western Region Year 8 Boys Cricket at Vic Park.

The day started off with a bit of drizzle but ended up with wonderful sunshine at the end.

The Year 8 Boys had Round Robin matches against Trinity College (63 runs v 65 runs), St Brigids College (70 v 76), Emmanuel College (59 v 100) and Mercy Regional College (57 to 78).

A number of close matches didn’t go BHS’s way unfortunately leaving them without a win on the board, it was certainly a day of what could have been for the Year 8 Boys team.

We also had three Year 10 students umpiring on the day to support coach Mr Ferguson.

The team found itself in Pool A alongside Monivae College (35 points v 49 points) and Trinity College (34 points v Trinity College). Horsham College, Mercy Regional College and Emmanuel College made up Pool B.

Unfortunately, the team didn’t win enough games to make the finals series finishing in 5th place.

It was a great experience for all students at their first SSV GWR event. Many more to come!

Congratulations to Year 7 student Jaxon Ladiges who was part of a record-breaking 2nd wicket partnership for the Ballarat Fire Brigade Cricket Club Senior 3rd Grade this past weekend.

Jaxon and fellow club member Luke McArthur put on a 264-run stand, with Jaxon contributing 58 of those runs. They broke a record that has stood since 1976.

An amazing effort for a Year 7 student playing senior grade cricket.

Well done Jaxon!
