STUDENT TALENT Celebration

EMERGENT 2024: GRADUATE SHOWCASE EXHIBITION
A big round of applause for Joe Thompson (Class of 2024) whose artwork “Distraction, Destruction” has been selected for exhibition in EMERGENT 2024: GRADUATE SHOWCASE EXHIBITION at Bunjil Place in May 2025.
EMERGENT is an art exhibition showcasing the next wave of talented artists, designers, makers, and photographers from our South East region. This inspiring exhibition will offer a glimpse into the creative minds shaping the future, working across a range of mediums to express their "concerns and challenges, but also their ideas and aspirations."
Please join us in celebrating the artistic talent of these young creatives, including Joe and his artwork from Creative Practice, by attending the free exhibition at Bunjil Place.

Distraction, Destruction
Creative Practice, Unit 4, 2024
Ink, Charcoal, Ceramic
This piece explores the challenges of internal conflict and how that can affect you or your life. The audience can see a normally functional object that due to the effects of the conflict (represented through the charcoal and ink) it is collapsing and becoming dysfunctional. Piercings seen across the sculpture reflect ideas of bringing external factors into the situation, that although may act as a solution just damage it even further. As the conflict exudes itself from the cracks in the sculpture the damage gets worse, and the effects of time or avoiding the issue are visible.”

Burst Encouragement Award
Our annual Arts Exhibition is always a highlight of the school calendar, showcasing the incredible creativity and dedication of our students. In 2024, we were thrilled to recognise one standout student with the Burst Encouragement Award, a special honour designed to celebrate emerging talent and inspire continued artistic growth.
Last year’s recipient, Jett Walles (Year 12), demonstrated exceptional dedication and originality in their creative work. Burst generously invited Jett into their studio to develop and deliver a range of branding solutions for his own personal branding project, as pictured.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Burst for their unwavering support and advocacy for the creative industries. Their generous sponsorship of the Burst Encouragement Award provides invaluable recognition and motivation for young designers.
By investing in the next generation of creative thinkers, Burst reinforces the importance of creative expression and innovation in our community. We especially recognise Lachlan Coates, Frankston High School alumni and Director of Burst, for his incredible generosity in sharing his time and resources for both the exhibition and this studio workshop with Jett.
