PRINCIPAL's Message

Dear Parents/Carers, Students And Friends

International Women’s Day Breakfast

On Friday morning we held our third International Women’s Day Breakfast at Frankston High School. It was a morning of celebration of women and their contribution and leadership on so many different levels throughout society. Thank you to all of our inspirational women: Jodie Belyea, Federal Member for Dunkley; Jordy Allen, AFLW player, and our very own Brooke Williams of Year 12 and Alyssa Lancaster of Year 11 for their insightful contributions to the Q&A panel. A special acknowledgment to Tyra Gourdouros (Deputy School Captain) for leading the organisation and co-hosting as MC alongside Blake Alford-Ryan (School Captain). A big thank you also to Michaela Fitzpatrick (Year 11) and Ruby Varney (Year 10) for their wonderful music performances. Their efforts and enthusiasm made the event truly memorable! Thank you to Ms Leah Hannas, Mrs Jess Bambridge and Tyra Goudouros (School Captain) for their outstanding work organising this wonderful event.

Swimming Carnival

Thank you to Mrs Jodie Burton, Mr Luke Rowe, and Mrs Kylie Grech, for their efforts in organising a very successful House Swimming Sports. It was great weather and fantastic to see our students participating and supporting each other. There was a sea of house colours surrounding the pool cheering on their friends and teammates. The dance competition was also a highlight, with a sea of colour and costumes doing the Nutbush, YMCA and Macarena. Well done to Yawa our winners of the House Swimming Sports this year:

1st: Yawa- 638,   2nd: Brim- 631,   3rd: Tir-rer- 601,   4th: Barrbunin- 595

Thank you to all staff and students who attended! Special mention to the Year 12 Sport and Rec classes who were instrumental in helping us run the day. A big thank you also to the SLC and World Challenge groups who supplied food, icey-poles, slushies and other drinks for students to purchase on the day.

Thank you to Ms Tiffany Greenhill, Ms Brittany Harvey, Ms Kelly Mitchell, Ms Kate Burgess, Ms Carla Caminiti, Ms Mel Donegan, Ms Claudia Tymms and Ms Michaeli Lyon for their efforts presenting to parents.

Semper Squad and Lunchtime Activities

Frankston High School is an exemplary school because staff enthusiastically support our students participating in extra-curricular activities which further strengthens their connection to school. Our Semper Squad and Lunchtime Activities have commenced this year overseen by Mrs Jodie Burton (Semper) and Ms Jess Knights (Lunchtime Activities)

Alumni Program

Frankston High School has a proud record of educating young people. Our school’s alumni community is huge, full of interesting people doing interesting things. Alumni can be inspirational, relatable role models for current students. They can provide career guidance for students, work experience placements or establish scholarships and other types of philanthropic support for students. Universities and private schools are skilled at building their alumni communities, but there hasn’t been a tradition in state schools of harnessing the potential of their alumni communities. Ourschool is a not-for profit service helping public high schools build a thriving alumni network to help current students and the school community. Our Alumni Program Coordinator, Rhiannon Slattery, is working here two days a week to find and reconnect with alumni. Rhiannon has established a contact list of alumni and their expertise, along with working with teachers to invite alumni back to school to enrich the school’s classroom subject, offer career pathways enrichment and drive work experience opportunities.

Year 7 Camps

It was fantastic for our students (and staff!) to be able to attend our two Year 7 Camps last week. I really enjoyed my time at camp seeing our students working together as a team, challenging and supporting one another. Thank you to all staff who attended to get to know our students better and ensure they have a successful transition to Frankston High School. Feedback from students and staff has been very positive. Thank you to Ms Samantha Cody, Ms Catherine Kyriakos, Ms Natalie D’Ambra, Mrs Sharee Dew and Mr John Simon for their efforts organising these camps.

SLC Camp

Our SLC Camp ran from Wednesday 26 February to Friday 28 February last week in Phillip Island. It was a great opportunity for our student leaders to form strong bonds and develop their ideas further supported by those staff attending. We have a great team of student leaders who are keen to continue to improve our wonderful school. Thank you to:

  • Mr Jon Christie for his efforts making this camp so great.

  • The incredible staff at Phillip Island Adventure Resortfor their hospitality and kindness.
  • All of the fabulous staff that joined us and facilitated our student workshops.
  • Our sensational students, particularly our Year 12 leaders, for their hard work and collaboration over a busy three days.

Staff Professional Learning Day

On Monday 10 February, all staff participated in professional learning run by Dr Tom Brunzell, Director of Berry Street. The Berry Street Education Model (BSEM) is an educator-designed and evidence-led course that will support our school community to learn more about proven strategies that can be easily implemented in the classroom and throughout the school. This training aims to empower and equip staff to help all students succeed through increasing engagement of students with complex, unmet learning needs to successfully improve all students’ self-regulation, relationships, wellbeing, growth and academic achievement, aligning with our schools pillars of excellence, community and aspiration. We have a team of trained staff who are excited to have us all undertake this professional learning and look forward to implementing some of the learning in our community over the coming period.
