Wellbeing

Our Breakfast Club continues to be a wonderful way to start the day. A nutritious and filling breakfast plays an important role in helping children concentrate, regulate their emotions and feel ready to learn. Whether it's at home or at Breakfast Club, starting the day with a healthy meal gives our students the energy they need to learn, play and thrive.
Wellbeing and Positive Behaviour at St Mary’s
Thank you to everyone who joined us for our wonderful celebrations, including our special awards ceremony and our opportunity to unpack wellbeing at St Mary’s School. It was a wonderful opportunity to come together as a community and celebrate the achievements of our students, while also exploring the practices that support their wellbeing and success.
A significant part of our approach to wellbeing is our strong focus on Positive Behaviour Response. We place great importance on establishing clear, predictable routines and procedures so that all students experience consistency, security and a strong sense of belonging at school.
Our approach is grounded in evidence-based practice. We believe that students need to be explicitly taught behavioural expectations, just as they are taught academic skills. Rather than simply expecting students to know how to behave in different situations, we take the time to clearly teach, model and practise our expectations. This provides students with the understanding and confidence they need to make positive choices.
The Behaviour Response Flowchart works alongside our school expectations to provide a clear and consistent framework for responding to behaviour. It supports staff to use shared language and predictable responses, ensuring that students understand what is expected and what will happen when expectations are met or need to be revisited.
Consistency is particularly important for children. When routines, language and responses are predictable, students are better able to understand boundaries, regulate their behaviour and feel safe and secure within their learning environment.
Our commitment to positive behaviour is ultimately about much more than responding to behaviour when challenges arise. It is about building relationships, explicitly teaching expectations, recognising positive choices and creating an environment where every student can learn and thrive.
We are very grateful for the ongoing support of our families as we continue to work together to strengthen wellbeing, positive behaviour and a strong sense of community at St Mary’s.
