Spotlight on Learning
Bethany Community
Dear Families,
It has been a wonderful week of learning in Year 5. We have commenced reading The Grandest Bookshop and students have been enjoying exploring the characters and story. Across the curriculum, students have continued to develop their skills and knowledge through a range of engaging learning experiences.
We are looking forward to celebrating Book Week next week and sharing our love of books, reading and storytelling. We have an exciting week planned and look forward to celebrating with our students!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Religious Education:
Next week, students will be learning that the Eucharist is a sacred sacrament and exploring the different parts of the Mass. They will compare the Eucharist with other celebrations and develop their understanding of how the parts of the Mass come together as a meaningful celebration of faith.
English:
Next week, students will continue reading The Grandest Bookshop while learning to plan a character description using a picture as inspiration. They will develop ideas about their character’s appearance and personality and use illustrations to represent and communicate their character clearly.
Mathematics:
Next week, students will be learning to use numbers with more than two decimal places when measuring mass. They will develop their understanding of decimal numbers and apply their skills to accurately read, record and compare measurements of mass.
Integrated Curriculum:
Next week, students will use their voice, body, movement and language to develop and sustain characters and relationships in drama. They will work on creating dramatic action while developing a clear sense of time and place in their performances.
Auslan:
Next week, students will explore signed stories as a fun and creative way to use their imagination. They will use pictures to support their understanding and practise signing a short story that includes character actions.
Social & Emotional Learning:
Next week, students will explore positive gender relations as part of the Rights, Resilience and Respectful Relationships program. They will develop their understanding of respectful relationships, equality and fairness, and explore ways to communicate and interact positively with others.
