Principal's Report

As we reach the halfway point of Term 3, with assessments underway, winter illness lingering and only four weeks remaining, our batteries can start to feel a little low. And yet, I continue to be incredibly proud of the way our students keep showing up. They continue to embrace opportunities beyond the classroom through sport, are working hard in rehearsals as our production draws closer, and are giving their time generously to others through community initiatives such as our work with Echuca Neighbourhood House.

These are the moments that remind us that education is about so much more than academic achievement. It is about building character, discovering strengths, supporting others and being part of something bigger than ourselves.

I am particularly mindful of our Year 12 students, who are now entering the final stretch of their secondary schooling. This can be an exciting but demanding time, and I want to acknowledge the determination they are showing as they balance their studies, commitments and the many emotions that come with approaching the end of their school journey. We are proud of them and will continue to walk alongside them, encouraging them to keep going, to look after themselves and to recognise just how far they have come.

We recently launched our 2027 Senior Student Leadership process, and we have been genuinely overwhelmed by the number of students who have put themselves forward. It is incredibly encouraging to see so many young people willing to step outside their comfort zones, share their ideas and consider how they can contribute to our College community. Our leadership speeches will be held next week, and I look forward to seeing our students demonstrate their courage, confidence and commitment. Regardless of the outcome, the willingness to put yourself forward is itself an important act of leadership.

Our Year 7-9 Parent, Teacher and Student Conferences on Thursday are another wonderful example of the partnership that sits at the heart of our College. These conversations provide an opportunity to come together, share insights and gain a clear picture of each student's progress as we enter the final stretch of the year. When home and school work together, our young people are best supported to recognise their strengths, respond to challenges and continue moving forward.

With only four weeks remaining in the term, we also recognise that it has been a long winter for many of our students and families, with illness affecting our community at various times. We hope our students enjoy a well-deserved rest on Friday, taking the opportunity to recharge and look after themselves. While students are enjoying their day away from school, our staff will be engaged in professional learning, continuing to build their knowledge and skills so that we can provide the very best learning and support for our students.

Next week, we are also very proud to welcome members of the wider Kildare Ministries community to Echuca for the 2026 Kildare Ministries Conference. Held from 26–28 August, the biennial conference brings together leaders from Kildare Ministries schools and community works, along with Boards, Trustees and Members, for a time of reflection, learning, conversation and connection.

The theme for this year's conference is Our Voice, Our Future – Listening. Responding. Transforming Together. It is a theme that speaks strongly to the way we want to live and work as a community. We will take time to listen deeply, consider how we respond to the opportunities and challenges before us, and explore how we can continue the mission entrusted to Kildare Ministries with courage and hope.

We are delighted to host this important gathering at St Joseph's College and to share our community with colleagues from across Kildare Ministries. It is a wonderful opportunity to strengthen the connections between our schools and communities, and to reflect on the shared purpose that brings us together.

As always, I am grateful for the many ways our students, staff and families contribute to the life of St Joseph's. Whether it is a student putting themselves forward for leadership, or representing our school with pride at interschool sporting events, a family sitting down with teachers to discuss their child's progress, or staff continuing to learn and grow together, our College is at its best when we work together.
