This year, we are introducing the new role of Mental Health and Wellbeing Leader at our school, as part of the Victorian Government’s Mental Health in Primary Schools (MHiPS) initiative. This program supports schools to strengthen student mental health and wellbeing, and the role will continue as an ongoing part of our school’s approach to wellbeing.

In this role, I work with teachers and staff to support the wellbeing of all students. This includes:

  • Promoting positive, evidence-based approaches to student mental health and wellbeing
  • Providing support to individual teachers in the classroom with students who have been identified as in need
  • Providing guidance to staff on supporting students experiencing challenges
  • Strengthening connections with wellbeing and external services to ensure students get the right support
  • Supporting staff to build their skills and contribute to whole-school wellbeing initiatives
  • Using school data to inform and improve wellbeing practices across the school

As part of this role, training is provided to Wellbeing Team staff to build skills in supporting student wellbeing. I have also undertaken postgraduate study specialising in Student Wellbeing, which supports my work in this role.

I look forward to working with staff, students, and families to continue building a positive, inclusive, and supportive school community.
