In Foundation, our students have been focussing on keeping the beat, and high and low sounds. For example, they have been exploring a sound story about high and low sounds called A Swinging Song.
In Year 1, they have been focussing on beat and rhythm. The students have learned the welcoming song Hey Everybody, sung the rhythm song The Dinosaur Stomp, and moved to the song I Went Driving in My Car.
Students in Year 2 have been focusing on long and short sounds and rhythms. They have been responding to long and short sounds by singing the songs In A Dark Wood, and The Oonka Chukka Chant.
In Year 3, our students in February have focussed on rhythm, raps and rhymes. They have practised beat grouping in threes and fours. For example, students have been working in pairs to the song Make Your Move.
Students in Year 4 have focussed on the rhythms and riffs of Funk and Calypso music. As an example, they sang and performed the song Get Funky, and sang the Calypso song The Poor Old Dog. They also explored the beat, rhythm and movement of Rio Carnival.
In Year 5 and 6, students have explored Reggae rhythms. They have looked at the history of Reggae music, created their own Reggae composition, and focussed on Reggae word rhythms by singing the song Any Song Can Be a Reggae song.
