Visit from Hirakata High School, Japan

On Monday 2nd March, Taylors Lakes Secondary College had the pleasure of welcoming visitors from our prospective sister school, Hirakata High School in Osaka, Japan.

We were delighted to host Principal Mr Hoda and English Teacher Mr Oyama, who spent the day at our college learning more about our community and programs.

The visit began with a productive meeting with staff to discuss opportunities for collaboration and the development of a sister-school partnership between our two schools. This was followed by a school tour and a series of class observations across a range of subjects. Our guests were particularly interested in seeing the diverse programs offered at Taylors Lakes Secondary College and enjoyed meeting both staff and students.

We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to Hirakata High School for the beautiful gifts of traditional Osaka snacks and the decorative screen.

We are very excited to continue building this partnership and are currently planning a one-week Japanese Homestay Program for July this year, with the exact dates to be confirmed shortly.

This program will provide a wonderful opportunity for students to develop intercultural understanding, build friendships with Japanese students, and experience authentic cultural exchange.

As part of this program, we are now calling for Expressions of Interest from families who may be willing to host a student from Hirakata High School for one week in July. Hosting a student is a rewarding experience that allows families to share Australian culture and daily life while welcoming a student from Japan into their home. Full details about the visit and support for host families will be provided once dates are confirmed.

If your family may be interested in becoming a host family, please email Danielle Thomas at danielle.thomas2@education.vic.gov.au.

We look forward to strengthening our connection with Hirakata High School and providing our students with exciting international learning opportunities.
