Student Leadership Summit 2026

On Friday the 20th of February, Year 11 and 12 student leaders were given the opportunity to attend the 2026 leadership summit at Overnewton College. The summit allowed us to collaborate and network with many student leaders from other prestigious schools.
Our day began with an ice breaker activity that allowed us to interact with other student leaders and be able to form new connections. We were able to gain an insight on the different personalities and experiences of a student leader.
Following that, we had the distinct privilege of welcoming Federal Member of Parliament for Gordon, Alice Jordan-Baird, who delivered an inspiring featured speech. This included her journey in becoming a leader, and most importantly, becoming a member of parliament. Her keynote address gave the opportunity for us to learn about the importance of being a leader and how to use our platform for the better.
The rest of the day consisted of group exercises, networking practices, and inspiring conversations organised by the Youth Leadership Academy. Through these small sessions, we learned the meaning and significance of self-leadership, and how it is a key element in becoming a leader for others.
They also provided us with the opportunity to collaborate with other leader and enhance on our teamwork skills. The Youth Leadership Academy gave us the opportunity to brainstorm problems within our school community, before focusing on one and finding solutions on how to improve the said problem.
We would like to thank and acknowledge the Overnewton College community, and all involved staff and students, who made this leadership summit possible, and for creating such a welcoming atmosphere, allowing us to meet and network with other schools. We would also like to extend our thanks to Ms. Massarotto and Mr. Laganga for organising this invaluable opportunity and motivating us to participate in such a collaborative experience. This has greatly strengthened our leadership skills.
