BNPS Archibald Prize
BNPS Archibald Prize
This year, like most years, we were lucky to have Geoff La Gerche to come and judge our year 6’s portraits while they were on camp.
This photo of Geoff was taken last year at Geelong Gallery where the Archie 100 was exhibited. This is Geoff in front of his finalist work.
The year 6’s started off in their sketch books and then went to start their backgrounds by painting and drawing. They did this for 4 weeks before they started illustrating their faces. Then the art teachers taught the students how to use the grid technique and the block out technique to help draw their portraits. This took them 5 weeks. Soon they were back to finishing their backgrounds.
The judges this year found it challenging to decide the winners as all the portraits and backgrounds were unique and amazing.
There were many finalists due to the exceptional standard, pictured above.
‘People’s choice award’, was voted by all the students except the year 6’s and went to Dakota.
‘Packer’s Prize’, was voted by all the staff and teachers which went to Ada.
‘The Archibald Prize’, was voted by the art teachers and Geoff La Gerche which was won by Henry.
By the Art Captains; Ollie Tew, Maya Watson, Josh Yu, and Sasha Roberts.
