Hume Regional Secondary Athletics

Eleven Special Education senior students attended the Hume Regional Secondary Athletics in Albury on Tuesday 6 October. Despite the early start, our students were upbeat, enthusiastic and ready to perform at their best.

Under the wonderful blue skies, conditions were perfect for athletics. Our students achieved some amazing results, and the fantastic sportsmanship shown by all Seymour College students competing was proudly on display throughout the day.

Congratulations to Lucinda and Jordan, who were successful in qualifying for the State Athletics Championships on 16 October. We wish them both the very best of luck!

SM Assembly

On Friday 10 September, it was our turn to showcase what we have learnt so far this term. We have had a busy term, and it was a struggle for us to think of what we wanted to show everyone.

Things that we are proud of are:

  • Viking bread
  • Cross country
  • Inventions we have thought about
  • Science and experiments
  • Things we have done in student choice.

We practiced reading and performing in front of the class, to help us keep our nerves at bay.

The biggest achievement that we have as a class, is that we have the highest Attendance Record for Special Education, and also the whole secondary sector. We were second in the school with 89.94%.

VPC Term 4 Report

Last term was a very busy and productive term for our VPC students. Students made excellent progress towards completing their VPC certificate, while also continuing to develop their confidence and independence when using public transport and navigating the wider community.

A particular highlight was the All Abilities Careers Expo, which provided students with the opportunity to meet with a range of post-school providers and explore different options for life after school. This was a valuable experience and gave students the opportunity to further develop their ideas about what they might like to do when they complete school.

In Term 4, students will have even more opportunities to build their independence. A number of excursions have been organised to locations including Broadmeadows and Melbourne City. During these excursions, students will be encouraged to explore the locations independently or in small groups, while meeting back with staff at designated times. These experiences will help students develop the confidence and skills they will need as they transition into life after school.

On a completely different note, the VPC garden has come into full bloom! The flowers are looking fantastic, and it has been wonderful to see the garden develop over the year. Students have put a lot of effort into caring for the garden, and they can be very proud of the results.

Growing Our Knowledge: The Life Cycle of Plants 🌱

Red Room students have been busy exploring the fascinating life cycle of plants! Through reading a range of texts and participating in a variety of engaging, hands-on activities, students have been developing their understanding of how plants grow and change over time.

Throughout this learning experience, students have explored the different stages of a plant’s life cycle, from a tiny seed to a growing plant. They have also participated in a range of creative art activities to help reinforce their learning and bring their understanding to life.

It has been wonderful to see students engaging with the topic, sharing their ideas and making connections between what they have read and the activities they have completed.

Red Room students have enjoyed this opportunity to learn about the natural world while developing their literacy, creativity and understanding of plant growth. We look forward to continuing our learning and watching our knowledge grow!
