Cobram AGS Students Shine at State Cross Country Championships

Congratulations to our superstar athletes who proudly flew the Cobram AGS flag at the SSV State Cross Country Championships in the picturesque Yarra Valley on Wednesday, 24 July.

While a couple of our competitors (Aiden Power and Jess Laidlaw) were unfortunately ruled out due to illness and travel complications, our representation remained strong, and our three competing students did not disappoint, tackling the challenging course with grit and determination!

Leading the way was Year 7 student Jasper Brown, who produced an incredible performance in the Under 12/13 Boys (Secondary) event. Jasper crossed the line in a sensational 4th place, posting a blistering time of 10:51.140. His effort saw him finish just seven seconds behind the eventual winner.

Fellow Year 7 runner Alex Chmiel also contested the same event, pushing hard through the hilly terrain to finish 79th with a commendable time of 13:03.137. His persistence and positive mindset were clear to see, and he should be applauded for completing such a tough race on the State stage.

In the Under 15 Boys race, Year 9 student Sam Brown turned in a powerful performance, finishing an impressive 15th with a time of 10:55.653. Against a field of the state’s best young distance runners, Sam held his own with a confident and strategic run.

All three athletes demonstrated not only exceptional athleticism but also a strong sense of school spirit and sportsmanship. Their achievements are a credit to their personal drive and training. The fact all five State qualifiers are Sports Academy members is also a testament to that program and the work Mr O'Dwyer is doing in that space.

Well done, Jasper, Alex and Sam , your efforts have inspired us all!
