These past two weeks the children have been settling well into the school rhythm and have enjoyed spending time with their classmates. The chilly mornings have made the poems about Jack Frost feel very relatable and the children have been on the look out for where Jack Frost has been visiting with his wand of glittering star dust around their neighbourhood.

Many of the children are finding joy in the rhythms of the poems and songs we learn in the morning circle and even though Erica and I have different songs and poems the children are really good at telling us how the songs should sound or what the words are.

On Monday of this week the children celebrated 100 days of school which marked the halfway point of their first year of school. We had a couple of activities where we explored what 100 looked like using items around the classroom and found that 100 beans looked very small compared to 100 gum nuts.

This week the children also got to experience a planetarium in the school library. The planetarium consisted of a giant inflatable tent that was very dark inside which then was lit up with the night sky. The visions of the solar system were very large and we saw a great deal of detail about many of the planets in our solar system. I also spoke to the students about the way Indigenous Australians used the night sky as a map and a way to tell them information about what was happening on the land around them.
