3/4 Mainstream

Welcome Back to Term 3!

It has been wonderful welcoming our students back into the classroom! In 3/4 we kicked off the term by reconnecting with peers through fun team-building games. Students have also spent time reflecting on their break and practising gratitude, helping us start the term with positive minds and strong connections.

To ensure our classroom is a space where everyone feels heard, we reviewed our expectations together. Students shared their ideas and input to update our Class Agreements for Term 3, giving them true ownership over our shared environment. These will guide our positive behaviour acknowledgment systems, working towards class game and end of term rewards.

So far this term in Reading, we have been continuing our reciprocal reading roles, examining texts through different lenses to think within and beyond the text. In Writing, we are delving deeper into persuasive text writing, examining and using persuasive structure and techniques to develop strong, convincing arguments together and independently. In Maths, we are focusing on telling time, a very important skill that is likely brought up multiple times a day at school and at home. Why not ask your student to tell YOU the time is this week and give them opportunities to practise their skills.

New in Term 3

This semester, 3/4s will be participating in Music and Gardening, which is an exciting addition to our well-rounded learning at TPS.

Our students will also be participating in the Malpa - Young Doctor Program that will be delivered by Shara Graham and Melanie Harrison. Notes have been sent home, so please ensure the permission section has been completed and returned to school as soon as possible, as the program commences in week 3 (next week). If you have not received this note already, please let us know.

The Malpa - Young Doctors sessions run over 15 weeks and are designed for Grade 3/4 students. The children will be involved in weekly activities, which are fun and focussed around 6 main topics: nutrition, health literacy, environment health, hygiene, leadership and emotional wellbeing. Throughout the program they will also work with community elders, respected community members and guest speakers.

3/4 A

It has been a busy and exciting return to 3/4 A for Term 3. While we were all eager to discuss our holidays, Florence gave a presentation about her trip to South Korea, complete with slides and images about attractions they visited and some history about the country.

Students used this example and incorporated elements into their own presentations when trying to persuade the class on what should be our new class novel. Students researched different texts then presented their choices for their peers, taking into account their audience and why they thought their selection would be the best choice. After some very persuasive talks the class voted on what would be our new class novel. We had nine to choose from with titles such as Wings of Fire, Enola Holmes, Missing, How to Break a Dragons Heart and Nora and the Map of Mayhem.

We used a preferential voting system where the candidates were listed in order of preference from 1 - 9, we then counted the votes as a class, showing how candidates were eliminated and votes redistributed until we reached an absolute majority.

We are looking forward to getting into our eventual winner, The Hobbit.
