Extraordinary day, extraordinary result
What an extraordinary day for Team sVc at the rescheduled Southern SATIS Cross Country, held at the stunning Queens Domain yesterday.
In near-perfect cross-country conditions, and with several star runners missing, Team sVc rose to the challenge, winning every junior boys age pennant. Their impressive performances led them to reclaim the Junior Boys Shield and, alongside the outstanding results from the Open boys, they proudly took home the Aggregate Boys Shield for the very first time. This day will be remembered as a testament to their hard work, teamwork, and unwavering spirit.

Let's support the Alex Gadomski Cup
The Alex Gadomski Cup between St Virgil’s College and The Hutchins School on Tuesday, 11 August.
In its 9th year, this football match is a Year 9/10 game and aims to honour one of SVC's former students, Alex Gadomski, and to raise awareness and much-needed funds for the Alex Gadomski Fellowship, all to find a cure for bone marrow failure.
2026 will again see a curtain raiser match between the two schools played before the main match.
Curtain Raiser: Year 7/8 — 11am

Doubles as Round 3 of the Year 9/10 Div 1 SSATIS Roster)
All Old Boys of both schools, current students, and family/friends are encouraged to attend. This event is open to the general public and is free of charge. All matches will be played on the War Memorial Oval at The Hutchins School. Sausage sizzle and coffee van will be available, and donations are welcome.

Tennis
Congratulations to Year 10 student athlete Charlie Marsden for his remarkable achievement! Recently, he had the honour of representing Tasmania at the 2026 Australian Teams Championships held on the sunny Gold Coast. Over the course of a week, Charlie showcased his impressive skills by playing in the number one position for Tasmania in both boys' singles and doubles.
During the competition, he found success in matches against teams from the ACT and Northern Territory, demonstrating his talent and determination. Notably, Charlie faced a higher-ranked opponent from New South Wales, pushing him to compete fiercely in a closely contested match early in the tournament. His performance not only highlighted his athletic abilities but also his commitment to the sport. Well done, Charlie!

We would like to extend our heartfelt congratulations to Campbell Barwick, a talented Year 10 student-athlete, on his remarkable achievement of being selected for the All-Australian team. This prestigious honour reflects his hard work, dedication, and exceptional skills in his sport. It's a tremendous milestone that highlights his commitment and passion. Well done, Campbell!

Congratulations to all students who participated in the Water Polo Tasmania schools roster last term, including a pulsating grand final night on the last day before the holidays commenced.

What an incredible finish to the 7/8 Boys Grand Final, with sVc dramatically claiming the championship after the match ended in a draw and was decided by a thrilling golden goal!
The game showcased outstanding skill, determination and sportsmanship from both teams, making it a fitting finale to a fantastic competition.

SVC Swimming Trials
Registrations are now open for students wishing to trial to be part of the sVc Swim Team for 2026. The trials are for highly capable swimmers and are run in conjunction with Mount Carmel College, St Mary's College, Dominic College and Guilford Young College.
The trials will take place at the Doone Kennedy Hobart Aquatic Centre on Friday 7 August (Week 2 of Term 3), starting at 7.00 pm and concluding by 9.00 pm. Students are to make their own way to and from the pool and arrive by 6.45 pm.
Following the trials, the sVc Swim Team will be selected to participate in the SSATIS Swimming Carnival on Thursday 27 August (Week 5) and the SATIS Swimming Carnival on Friday 18 September (Week 8), both at the DKHAC. Team sVc may take part in several training sessions in the lead up to the carnivals, with details to be confirmed.
Please note, the selection trials provide a guide only for the final selection of the team. Past performances, commitment to College sport, and fulfillment of student academic and behavioural expectations will also be taken into account. Representing the College is a privilege, and ongoing participation in Co-Curricular activities is subject to advice from Heads of House and College Leadership.
To assist with team selections, students must swim in the appropriate SSATIS year of birth age groups as per below:
- Year 7 - U13 - year of birth 2013
- Year 8 - U14 - year of birth 2012
- Year 9 - U15 - year of birth 2011
- Year 10 - U16 - year of birth 2010
Year 11/12 - Open - year of birth 2008 or 2009
Registrations for the trials close at 5.00pm on Monday, 3 August. Students can register for multiple events. To register, click here.
No relays will be conducted at the trials. Relay teams for SSATIS and SATIS carnivals will be determined by individual swim results and workload. If selected in the sVc Swim Team, students are required to wear sVc approved bathers and swim cap, which can be purchased through the Uniform Shop. The Uniform Shop is open Tuesday/Thursday, 8am - 4pm or can be contacted on 6249 3610 or st.virgils@midford.com.au Parents/carers are welcome to attend the trials.
