From the Principal

Dear Parents, Students and Friends of St Virgil’s College,

It has been wonderful to welcome students back this week and to see the College regain its energy after the two-week break. The winter quiet of recent days has quickly given way to the life, movement and spirit that our students bring. They are, without doubt, at the centre of all that makes school life rewarding, and it remains a privilege to work alongside them through both their achievements and the challenges that help them grow.

I extend a particularly warm welcome to the new students and families joining St Virgil’s College this term. I hope your beginning with us is a positive and settled one, and that each of you quickly finds your place within our vibrant College community.

Parent/Student/Teacher Conferences

The beginning of Term 3 feels different from the anticipation that comes with the start of a new school year in February. By now, students return with a clearer understanding of expectations, routines and the work that lies ahead. The recent break has also provided time for families to reflect on Semester One reports, and Monday's Parent/Student/ Teacher Conferences offered an important opportunity to consider that feedback in conversation. These meetings allowed students, parents and teachers to look carefully at what has been achieved, what can be strengthened, and, where necessary, what changes may be needed to support future success. When these discussions take place in genuine partnership, students are best placed to benefit. 

I thank all parents and carers who attended and hope the conversations were constructive and useful. Families who were unable to attend are encouraged to contact relevant staff in the coming weeks.

Academic Assembly

On Friday, 14 August, we will gather to recognise the academic commitment and accomplishments of students in Years 7 to 12 across the first half of the year. Students will be acknowledged among their peers for outstanding achievement as well as for consistent application across their subjects. The assembly will also provide the opportunity to recognise those students receiving Year 11, 2027 Academic Scholarships or Bursaries for All-Round Excellence as well as students being acknowledged for their exemplary behaviour. I look forward to welcoming parents and carers to what will be an important and celebratory occasion.

P&F Quiz Night

A reminder to parents and carers that the annual College Quiz Night will take place on Friday, 14 August, from 6pm at the Austins Ferry Campus. Jointly supported by the Junior and Senior School P&F Committees, this event is a wonderful opportunity for parents, carers and friends from both campuses to come together in support of the College. It promises to be a relaxed and enjoyable evening, with pizzas and beverages provided by our Senior Hospitality students. Further information has already been shared, and I warmly encourage families to support this important P&F fundraising event.
