Performing Arts

 with Mrs Sarah Bailey

Spring has sprung!

Music has a unique way of shaping and affecting our moods. Each week the Prep- Grade 2 students spend some time listening to a classical or orchestral piece of music from a movie soundtrack. This shows them how to use music as a tool for calming down, developing their listening ears for hearing different sounds and instruments and to notice how it makes them feel. Last week we also added an extra element by students expressing themselves and what they visualised to the Vivaldi "Spring" piece from his Four Seasons concerto. Enjoy these artwork responses....

Next term:

We have lots of performance opportunities coming up in Term 4....!

Our Grandparents/Special Friends Day will be on 21 Oct (detailed flyer will come out soon) and include a 9:15am performance from students across the school in the theatre. We will also be having a whole school incursion on 19 Nov at 2:30pm from Kaboom Percussion who will perform and inspire us with recycling and quirky handmade instruments from items commonly available at home. Christmas preparations will start early next term as we start preparing for our Annual School Christmas Carols on 3 December - SAVE THE DATE! This is a special evening of performances from each grade and special groups with the theme this year "Christmas in our Community". Some of our students will take their performance to the Warrandyte Community Carols the following week and then its onto Grade 6 Graduation - where speeches, class song and class dance provide lots of opportunities to present themselves confidently. I am extremely proud of the efforts of students to embrace the many and varied opportunities that ACPS offers and next term will no doubt be full of lots again.

Our 2027 Production "Little Mermaid Jr"

Earlier this week we announced we will be going under the sea for next years musical production of Disney's Little Mermaid Jr. The performance will run from Friday 14-16 May 2027 and all students in Grade 1 to Grade 6 next year are welcome to join us. Rehearsals are largely during 1-2 lunchtimes per week for Term 1+2 2027 and will also include the odd weekend/Curriculum day rehearsal. Auditions for main/principal parts will occur in Term 4 2026 and I will send a link to register students interested in joining the ensemble. More details will follow with 2027 rehearsal schedule but it's going to be another wonderful experience to dip into developing students' creativity, confidence, responsibility and teamwork capably led by Gavin D Andrew with parent and staff support.

Have a wonderful holiday break. Chookas (All the best) to students who are in upcoming Music, Dance or Drama concerts and shows - I know quite a few are on. Annie Jr tickets are still for sale if you are interested with several of our children in the cast :  https://www.trybooking.com/au/event/1637643
