Cycling
Term 1 2025
It’s been a big start to the year for our cycling program.
We started by covering many skills, recording and collating our results in preparation for comparison with further skills testing later in the year. Skills included balance, front wheel lifts, rear wheel lifts, body positioning and cornering. The students have been working hard to build their skills at school and in term 2 they will be able to take these skills to the next level in our annual Schools Mountain Bike Race on May 18th held at the College.
Our new Yr 11 Coaches for the year Kody Hedin, Ed Snell and Lewis Moloney welcomed the Enhancement Students in week 3 and have been running bike games and focusing on developing riding skills utilising the Hill View trail around the school.
Our students have also been competing in Victoria in the VDHS rounds up at Mansfield, Mt Baw Baw, Mt Beauty and Shepparton. We have also had a few students competing at National Champs in Mt Buller, well done to Angus Leach, Archie Young and Remy Young. Many of the Cycling Academy and Enhancement students are looking forward to more mountain bike racing as the year goes on.
Some of our students helped to construct some dirt jumps at the RW Stone Reserve in Balnarring. This initiative was set up by the council to engage the local kids in constructing and maintaining their own jumps facility. Council has plans to install more dirt jumps like these in other areas on the peninsula as the year progresses.
Finally, it was a big welcome to our new Bike Shed and Pump Track. As part of the Special School re-development our old shed was demolished and a new one constructed. Many hours have been spent setting up our new home, which is a considerable upgrade from our old facility.
We in the cycling program hope everyone has a fun and happy holidays and remember to…….RIDE YOUR BIKE!
