Principal's Report

Term 1, 2025

WELCOME TO 2025

Term 1 continues to be an outstanding success, and the positive atmosphere around our school, along with our students' collective focus on learning, is commendable. I would like to take this opportunity to recognise the outstanding commitment and enthusiasm of our students in participating in the many co-curricular activities on offer at our school, including the annual Sports Carnival, musical soirees, cycling club, drama club, and swim squad, to name a few. A special congratulations to our inter-school swimming team for their fantastic efforts in the pool on Thursday, 27 February. The College has now secured this championship for the fourth year in a row! Additionally, I am delighted to share the success of our recent Athletics Day at Ballam Park. It was a whole-school event, and I was extremely proud of the students' engagement and the way they represented our college on the day. Open Night was another highlight of the term. It was wonderful to see so many students volunteering, engaging with parents, and demonstrating their pride in our school. The strong sense of community and school spirit displayed by our students is truly inspiring and a testament to the positive culture we continue to foster at Dromana College.

Year 7 Camp – Phillip Island

Our Year 7 students are currently enjoying their annual pastoral camp at the picturesque Phillip Island. This three-day experience is an important milestone in the transition to secondary school, offering students a chance to build friendships, develop resilience, and strengthen their connection to the wider school community. The camp program includes a range of outdoor and team-building activities designed to support student wellbeing and foster a strong sense of belonging. As I write this newsletter, I am on my way to visit the camp myself, and I look forward to seeing our newest cohort in action—laughing, learning, and living the Dromana College values beyond the classroom.

Indonesian Year 8 Food Night

We were thrilled to see the great success of the Indonesian Year 8 Food Night, where students and their families came together to enjoy a delicious array of traditional Indonesian dishes. It was heartening to witness so many families in attendance, celebrating culture and community through food. A huge thank you to our dedicated language staff for organising this vibrant and memorable event. Their hard work and passion continue to provide our students with engaging, real-world learning experiences that enrich our college community.

College Council Election Results

The College Council elections have concluded, and it is with great pleasure that I welcome all new and returning members to the Dromana College Council. I look forward to working alongside the new council to continue delivering excellence in education for the Mornington Peninsula. I would also like to take this opportunity to extend my gratitude to the retiring members of the College Council for their invaluable contributions in making Dromana College the exceptional school it is today.

Building Fund

We have received many generous donations this year towards our tax-deductible Building Fund. On behalf of the College community, I would like to express my sincere gratitude for these contributions. The funds received are securely held and will be used to enhance the physical environment in which our students learn. Thank you for your continued support.

Parent-Teacher-Student Interviews

Monday, 31 March 2025, was set aside for Parent-Teacher-Student Interviews, which took place from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm. This was a student-free day, meaning students were not required to attend regular classes. These interviews serve as a valuable opportunity for parents, students, and teachers to discuss student progress and ensure that the 2025 academic year is on track for success. The College Council is considering a move to online interviews and is seeking feedback from families on whether this would be beneficial.

Accident Insurance Cover for Students

Certain school activities, including physical education and contact sports, inherently carry a risk of injury. Parents are advised that the Department of Education does not provide Student Accident Insurance. Therefore, if a child is injured at school due to an accident or incident, all associated medical costs remain the responsibility of the child’s parent or caregiver. While some expenses may be covered by Medicare or private health insurance, any additional costs must be borne by the family. Parents who wish to ensure additional coverage may consider purchasing Student Accident Insurance through an approved insurance broker.

Personal Goods Brought to School at Owner’s Risk

Personal property, including mobile phones, calculators, toys, sporting equipment, and vehicles parked on school premises, is often brought to school by students, staff, and visitors. Please note that the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development does not provide insurance for personal property brought to schools and is not responsible for any loss or damage to such items. We encourage all members of our school community to be mindful of their belongings and take necessary precautions to keep them safe.

We look forward to an incredible year ahead and thank our students, staff, and families for their continued support and dedication to making Dromana College a thriving learning environment.
