2025 Student Leadership Conference: A Platform for Empowering Future Leaders
The 2025 Student Leadership Conference was an inspiring and transformative event for students eager to explore the depths of leadership, collaboration, and action. The 2025 College Captains, Arabella, Archie, Kash, and Wes, led an engaging and inspiring day for all student leaders.
One of the highlights of the conference was guest speaker CEO of the Heart Foundation David Lloyd, who joined us from Brisbane via web call. With a wealth of experience in leadership, David share invaluable insights into how leadership and how to drive positive change in society. Drawing from his career in public health and social change, the students gained a deeper understanding of the power of leadership in addressing critical issues and inspiring collective action. He also generously provided a Q&A session, where students had the opportunity to ask David any questions about his journey through leadership. This presentation served as a powerful reminder of the impact students can have when they channelled their leadership skills towards causes that matter.
The conference focus was on developing an understanding of learner agency. Learner agency, referring to the ability of students to take ownership of their learning, make informed decisions, and drive their educational experiences, was explored through a range of contexts including the Dromana College Annual Implementation Plan and School Strategic Plan. This Conference was a space for the leaders to discuss and explore what they believed this could look like and be a catalyst for further discussions within the college during 2025.
The 2025 Student Leadership Conference was an unforgettable experience for students who aspired to be leaders. Watching the Year 7 and 12 Student Leaders bond and make new connections was one of the genuine highlights of the day. They left motivated to positively impact and influence the college both for their peers and for staff.
Casual Dress Day Raises Funds for the Disabled Surfer's Association
Our Term One Casual Dress Day fundraiser was a huge success, with students coming together to support the Disabled Surfer's Association Mornington Peninsula (DSAMP). The event raised nearly $1200, all of which will go towards helping individuals with disabilities experience the joy of surfing and being part of the ocean community.
Students participated by wearing outfits inspired by ocean colours, creating a vibrant sea of blues, greens, and whites across the school. It was a wonderful display of creativity and community spirit, with everyone coming together for a fantastic cause.
A special thank you to the Music Department and students for their fantastic performances which, as always, added to the day's energy and atmosphere! Their talent helped make the event even more memorable.
Additionally, marine-themed watercolour painting and salt art activities were a hit with students from all year levels. It was fantastic to see so many students working together, supporting and complimenting one another’s artistic pieces!
We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to all the student leaders who played a key role in organising the Casual Dress Day and lunchtime activities, as well as the Year 9 Surf n Turf classes for their dedication and support. Your efforts were truly appreciated and contributed to making this event a success.
Thank you to everyone who participated, contributed, and helped make this Casual Dress Day a day to remember. We are proud to have raised such a significant amount for a cause that helps so many!
Congratulations to the Student Leaders for a fantastic Term 1 and we look forward to working with them in Term 2.
