Enhancement Program

Term 1,2025

The Dromana College Enhancement Program allows students the opportunity to engage in areas of interest more deeply than can be accommodated within the school day and the daily timetable. The programs enable students to experience specialist coaching and to link their learning to the wider community through partnerships with professional organisations, businesses and tertiary institutions.

Extracurricular activities are crucial for fostering well-rounded individuals, offering students opportunities to develop a diverse set of skills beyond academics. They promote social and emotional well-being by building relationships, enhancing emotional intelligence, and supporting mental health. Additionally, these activities nurture leadership qualities, personal growth, and self-discovery, helping students build confidence and prepare for future success in both personal and professional endeavors.

The Enhancement Programs are an inclusive model, open to all students within the specified year levels, irrespective of their ability level. The focus of the program is on participation and improvement, meaning that great care is taken to ensure all students receive the required coaching to improve and progress within their chosen field. The classes available are listed below:

Aerobics, AFL, Athletics, Cycling, Dance, Design, Media, Sailing, STEAM, Swimming, Theatre and Tipoff Basketball.

If you are interested in your child being involved in the Enhancement Program, please email enhancement@dsc.vic.edu.au.

Rowing

Congratulations, Molly Sawyer!

Over the weekend, Molly competed in the prestigious Head of the Schoolgirls event which is the largest all-female regatta in the Southern Hemisphere and secured a bronze medal—an incredible achievement! She raced against competitors who had been rowing for two years, proving her determination and skill in a field of 16 athletes. This event is a significant milestone in her rowing journey.

Molly’s success doesn’t stop there. At the Victorian State Championships in Nagambie, she claimed gold in the single scull, a remarkable feat.

Having only been rowing for just over a year, Molly has already achieved outstanding results. She trains at Carrum Rowing Club and will make history as the first girl from Dromana Secondary College to compete at HOSG.

Well done, Molly, and best of luck for the next race!

This term, students in the Art Enhancement program have been developing their observational drawing and painting skills through focused sessions. Beginning with charcoal observational drawings, students explored tone, contrast, and depth to capture the intricate details of their subjects.

Building on these skills, they moved into still life painting, where the focus was on underpainting techniques and understanding light sources. Through careful layering and blending, students created dynamic and realistic compositions that highlight their growing technical abilities.

Art Enhancement is a fantastic opportunity for students who are passionate about developing their creative skills in a supportive and inspiring environment.

If you’re interested in joining Art Enhancement in Term 2, please email Jacqui Rodden to express your interest.
