Grade 3/4/5

This week our Year 3 and 5 students began NAPLAN. So far, we have completed the Writing, Reading and Conventions of Language tests. Although we experienced a few technical issues during the writing session, students showed great persistence and resilience and continued to do their best. We are very proud of the positive attitude students have shown throughout the testing.

In reading, we have been enjoying the book Leo and Ralph. Students have loved learning about Leo and his imaginary friend, Ralph, and discussing the events in the story. The book has also helped introduce our new learning about space, allowing us to make connections between the story and some interesting facts about our universe.

In writing, students have been learning about direct speech, narrative structure, and the key elements that make up a complete sentence. They have been practising how to organise their ideas when writing narratives and how to correctly include dialogue in their stories.

In mathematics, we have recently finished our unit on duration of time, where students worked on reading clocks and calculating different lengths of time. We have now begun learning about multiplication and division, exploring how arrays and grouping can help us understand these concepts. Students have been using hands-on materials and visual strategies to support their learning.
