Ready to Learn Plans
Across the school, all students have recently created their own Ready to Learn Plans. These plans help students recognise when they may not be feeling ready to learn and identify simple strategies they can use to reset and refocus.
At times, students can feel tired, frustrated, worried or distracted. A Ready to Learn Plan supports students to notice these feelings and choose a short strategy that helps them return to the main purpose of school – learning.
Importantly, these strategies are not ways to avoid learning. Instead, they are quick resets that usually take five minutes or less and are typically completed within the classroom. These short actions help students regulate their emotions, improve their mood and get themselves back into a positive headspace for learning.
Some examples of strategies students might choose include taking a few calming breaths, getting a drink of water, doing a short movement break, using a quiet space in the classroom, or speaking briefly with their teacher.
By learning these skills, students build their ability to manage emotions, problem solve and take responsibility for their learning and wellbeing. Over time, this helps create calm, focused classrooms where all students are supported to do their best learning. ⭐
