Grade Prep/1/2

We have moved onto our next text, reading Elmer's Special Day. We have been exploring our information gathering questions- 'Who, what, when, where and how?' as well as learning how to identify the 'Characters, Setting, Problem and Solutions'. Students have also focused upon understanding what an 'event' is in our stories to assist us in recalling our picture storybooks. Students have combined illustrations and written word to demonstrate their learning.
Students have also continued to learn about place value. This work has continued to develop our understanding of how hundreds, tens and ones can be represented. This can be very tricky. If you have any time at home to assist in developing this skill further, find small collections of objects and count/ sort into groups of tens and ones. Provide a number and have your child represent that number using tens and ones.
Students have continued to have Mrs Eales and Mrs Richardson share the classroom. We have continued to enjoy getting to know our little people more and learning where students need more support/ extension in their learning. If you have not yet had an SSG, these will be organised for the morning and early afternoon of Parent Conference Day (final week of term).
