Spark of Life

When listening to a public speaker deliver a presentation, it is more engaging if they are not simply reading a script.  If a person is sharing from personal experience, or from a personal conviction about an issue, it is evident and you know that they have a heart for their topic which springs from a passion deep within them.

When it comes to faith there is also a difference between someone just reading the script and those whose faith comes from their heart.  Going through the motions of trying to live a life which we think pleases God is like following the script. It may be correct but it is missing something. It needs the spark of life; that extra something which comes from experience.

Jesus said, “The Spirit is the one who gives life! Human strength can do nothing. The words that I have spoken to you are from that life-giving Spirit.” (John 6:63)

Those who live by the Spirit know God’s love and acceptance. They know what it is to have a relationship with God. This is the difference between seeing the Bible as written laws to obey or ancient history and seeing it as a love letter from someone dear to us who wants us to live a full and purposeful life.
