In our Year 7 Digital Tech programme, students are discovering how learning about programming can be hands-on and practice and still teach critical IT skills.
As part of learning about flowcharting and programming, our challenge with students in this last week has been about how to create a program (step-by-step instructions) . We talked about how robots rely on being told what to do via programs, and how humans have to write these programs.

So how do you create a program to make a super-fast paper plane (called the dart)? Students wrote some simple step-by-step guides and then applied these skills to create and fly their planes.
Who flew the fastest and furthest ? Our photos of the winners might make it clearer, and you might be able to spot the programs the students wrote to come up with their winning designs.
As part of Year 10 Digital Literacy, we are looking at the advanced data privacy concepts involved with implied consent around tech Terms and Conditions (T&Cs) and also how social media uses your private information whether you know it is being used or not.
While its often very challenging to read about the T&Cs, it is becoming more and more important to read, so you know how your own data is being used. There are simple ways to decrease your online sharing and risks of having your private data exposed, and retain privacy of your data; but it can be hard, and it can also only apply from the date that you make changes.

Australia has been world-leading in terms of holding tech companies to account around privacy, but there is still a long way to go. While the world grapples with these concepts and governments world-wide catch up we consider the impacts. Students created some memes to help share these concepts.
