Year 7 Visual Art

Students in 7S have been busy experimenting with paint this term. The students have been creating their own choice artworks and, this week, we have focused on developing painting techniques. It has been great to see the students practicing their colour mixing and applying their new knowledge of tones, tints, and shades.

Year 9 and 10 Ceramics

We are off to a great start in term 4 Ceramics! Students have learnt about a variety of surface decoration techniques and in the process of planning and making a wide range of artworks. We are seeing a lot of creativity from the students from character figures, letter tiles, to all sorts of functional bowls and vases.

Watching the students develop their skills and knowledge from term 3 has been wonderful. I love seeing each of my students explore their own interests, tastes, and skills. Stay tuned for the results!

Students spent a full lesson learning how Wantirna College keeps everyone safe in the workshop, including the use of quiet machinery and dust extraction systems. In the following lesson, everyone had the opportunity to learn how to use the tools correctly and safely to build their Habitat Boxes.

It is fantastic to see students developing safe working habits, building confidence and preparing to create some amazing woodworking projects!

Street Food Fiesta

Our Year 9/10 Street Food Fiesta students recently took over the kitchen for the practical lesson of their assessment, where each student created a signature lunchtime burger for their own imaginary food truck.

Every burger needed a protein patty, at least three fresh fruits, vegetables or herbs, a sauce and a cheese. Students built them from beef, chicken and/or bacon and added toppings ranging from avocado and red onion to pineapple, and fried egg.

After planning their recipes, ordering ingredients, and designing a branded takeaway box, they cooked and plated their burgers. Congratulations to all our budding food truck owners, and don’t be surprised if requests for a home-made burger night start coming your way!
