Health & PE

What a super start to Health and PE this term!
With the sun shining and the weather steadily warming up, our grades enjoyed heading out onto the oval on our first week back of term to continue developing their athletics skills in preparation for our Annual School Sports Day! Students practised their sprints and long distance running around the oval, tackled the egg and spoon and sack races, and took on the bean bag in the hoop and shot put challenges.
It has been wonderful to see students encouraging one another and embracing each activity with joy and enthusiasm.
And….what a fabulous School Sports Day we had this year! Last Wednesday our students enjoyed a day of participation, active fun and enjoyment.
It was lovely to come together as a school community to share in this day and enjoy a picnic lunch in the sunshine together. Thank you to all our families who were able to come along, support the students and join in the fun!
The students from F to 6 enjoyed participating in mixed age activities and the traditional sprints and long distance runs. It was great to observe them supporting one another, cheering their house teams on and getting into the spirit of the day! Congratulations to Blue team for taking out the win this year and to Yellow team for being our team spirit winner this year! Congratulations to all teams and all individuals on a fabulous effort!
Our Grade 3-6 students enjoyed a super engaging, active and fun cricket clinic at school last Friday organised by Ron Rooney, Head Coach - Ultimate Cricket Programs, on behalf of the Castlemaine District Cricket Association. It was noted how attentive, focused and positive our students were in the session! If your child is interested in playing cricket this season there are lots of opportunities – just reach out to local clubs for further information.

This term we move on from our athletics focus and onto…
Grade F-2: Kickball, Swimming and revisiting and practising a range of fundamental motor skills including throw, catch, run, jump, ball bounce and punt through fun skill drills, activities and games!
Grade 3-6: Handball, Swimming, Newcomb Ball and Volleyball.
Of course we will look forward to finishing the term off with a fun class games session to celebrate student learning and achievement!
In our Health studies, after revisiting the benefits of physical activity and exploring the ways we can ensure physical activity is safe and enjoyable for ourselves and others, we will be focusing on personal growth, change and wellbeing. This will include exploring physical as well as social and emotional growth and change, personal strengths and coping strategies.
