Socktober
Our students are using a wholistic approach of engaging their head, heart and hands to learn about Catholic Social Teaching(CST). The RE unit for this term focuses on the CST of "Preferential Option of the Poor." This unit highlights our commitment to prioritising the needs of those who experience poverty.
During the month of October many schools and parishes throughout the world discover more about the work Catholic Mission and it's impact for local communities experiencing poverty. This year marks 100 years since the organisation's foundation. Students will be invited to wear crazy socks to school and bring a gold coin donation for Catholic Mission. (Date to be confirmed).
In 2026 funds will be used to support education and development at St Peter's School in Kampira Village, Malawi.
Yamikani’s* legs ache before the school day has even begun. The walk to Mangochi, his current school, is several kilometres - past busy dirt roads, in the heat, on legs made weaker by a physical disability.
Living in one of the most remote communities in Malawi, education is not a given. For some, the distance, cost, and resources required to attend school are deciding factors in whether attending school is even possible.
With the support of Catholic Mission, a new primary school - St Peter’s Nyamikuta - is being built close to where Yamikani and other families like his now live.
Upcoming Feasts
Coming in the liturgical calendar of the Church we have 2 special feasts at the beginning of November .
- Nov 1st: All Saints Day
- Nov 2nd: All Souls Day
All Saints' Day (celebrated on November 1) is a special Catholic feast day where we remember and honor all the saints in heaven—both the famous ones we know and love, and the many ordinary people who lived loving, faithful lives with God.
It is a wonderful time to recall that we are all called to be "saints" in our daily lives by showing kindness, helping others, and letting God's light shine through our words and actions.
This is St Carlo Acutis. He was declared a saint by the Catholic Church in 2025 and his feast day was on Oct 12th.
Carlo Acutis (May 3, 1991 – October 12, 2006) was an Italian teenager who loved computers and his Catholic faith. He is famous for using his tech skills to share his beliefs online. Carlo also helped people experiencing homelessness. He would use his own money to buy them food and sleeping bags. He believed in treating everyone with kindness and respect.
All Souls' Day is a quiet, loving day when we remember the people we miss who have gone to be with God. Even though they are no longer with us here, we keep them in our hearts with happy memories, light a candle for them, and say a special prayer to God. We especially remember at this time those in our own community who have lost loved ones recently.
