Grade 3/4/5/6

Welcome to Term 4! We enjoyed a lovely, gentle start to the term with our Day of Joy—a wonderful opportunity for students to reconnect, share holiday stories, and collaborate in the kitchen to prepare a delicious morning tea of tzatziki, chocolate balls, and fresh fruit platters.
This term, we are excited to partner with YIMBY (Yes In My Back Yard), a community-led backyard composting initiative based in Castlemaine. Food scraps from our classrooms and Garden to Kitchen program will be collected and transformed into rich compost by dedicated local volunteers.
In Literacy, we have begun our new class novel, The Grandest Book Shop in the World by Amelia Mellor. Inspired by Melbourne’s iconic Cole’s Book Arcade (1883–1929), this captivating historical fantasy follows two siblings fighting to save their extraordinary family bookstore and father from a sinister magician.
In Numeracy, we are diving into number properties, focusing on identifying multiples. Students had fun putting their skills into practice playing ‘Multiplication Battle’ and 'Divide and Conquer' with playing cards!
In Religious Education, we continue exploring Catholic Social Teaching through the principle of Preferential Option for the Poor, reflecting on how we can use our head, heart, and hands to show solidarity and stewardship for others and our common home.
Our Inquiry unit delves into local history, examining how Castlemaine and its surrounding environments, places, and people have evolved over time. A special highlight will be investigating the heritage of the iconic local red gum, the Guildford Biyal (Guildford Big Tree).
We look forward to a full and exciting final term.
