ALUMNI Update

With so many different careers available in the wider sports industry, it was wonderful for students to hear from alumni who could share insights based on their own experience. 

This week, Sports Coaching students spent a session with FHS alumni Orry Lack (Class of 2005) and Renee Fox (Class of 2016).

Orry is currently Chief Commercial Officer at North Melbourne Football Club and spoke about the business of footy and all the different partnerships and fundraising he manages that provide the income required to put a team on the ground. He also spoke about his career pathway and the benefit of his degree in media and communications even though he’s not working as a sports journalist as he initially expected; Orry mentioned that some opportunities have come about through networking and emphasised the importance of putting your best self forward in every situation.

Renee spoke about ‘Perfectly Flawed’, her podcast championing resilience in sport by sharing the stories of up-and-coming athletes, Paralympians, Olympians, and high-performance experts. She was able to share her experiences speaking with some of these significant figures along with what it was like to study the Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science and a Bachelor of Business Sport Management at Deakin University, a course some students might be interested in. She left students with the message to “do it scared – it only takes one second to be brave”.

About the Alumni Program

Frankston High School is continuing to grow its alumni program in partnership with Ourschool, a not-for-profit alumni program for state secondary schools and the first of its kind in Australia.

By connecting with the alumni program, past students can provide career guidance and work experience opportunities for current students, establish scholarships and bequests, or volunteer in lots of other ways.

Ourschool is working with Frankston High to help these things happen by growing the school’s alumni community and coordinating the involvement of alumni in the school.
