NEVR concert
Three senior students were involved in the North-East Victoria Region (NEVR) concert, 'Legends and Lore' at Hamer Hall. It was a fabulous showcase of musicians from across the region's primary and secondary schools. More than 600 students participated in choirs, orchestras, concert bands, dance troupes, soloists and duos.
Isla, Olivia and Ada were part of a 180 strong primary choir, and joined with other students to sing four songs related to the theme; Parrwang Lifts the Sky (a First Nation's Dreaming story), Nessie, a song about the Loch Ness monster (composed by the conductor), The Bat, and Go the Distance (from Disney's Hercules). They sounded beautiful and we were proud of the way they conducted themselves in the choir and in public.
We had a few hours to ourselves between the sound check and performance and so explored a few of the city's attractions. We found Frederick McCubbin's famous painting, Pioneer' in the NGV's Ian Potter Gallery, played video games at ACMI (Aust Centre for Moving Images), saw Ned Kelly's armour in the State Library and the big musical clock and Shot Tower at Melbourne Central. Thanks, girls, for a great day!
