Literacy & Numeracy

In Literacy, we have been practising the structure of a sentence, focusing on how to organise our ideas clearly and correctly. Students have been reading lots of mentor texts, especially procedural texts, to see strong examples of writing in action. We have also been working hard on our sounding and blending skills, helping us to read and spell more confidently. This has all supported our continued journey through the Little Learners Love Literacy program, where students are building strong foundations in reading and writing.

Thank you to all our families for your ongoing support with reading at home. The time you spend reading with your child is making a real difference, helping to build their confidence, fluency, and love of books.

In Numeracy, the students have successfully completed their unit on Addition and are now moving on to Subtraction. They have been developing their understanding of number relationships and using a range of strategies to solve problems. It has been great to see their growing confidence as they apply their skills to new challenges.

Mother's Day

We had a wonderful time celebrating our Mother’s Day event and enjoyed sharing special moments with our students and their families. A heartfelt thank you to all the mums for joining us and making the day so meaningful and memorable.

Our Soccer Club has been an exciting and energetic part of the school week, bringing students together to develop their skills, teamwork, and love of the game. Each session has focused on building confidence with the ball, improving passing and shooting, and learning how to work effectively as a team on the field. It’s been great to see so many students participating with enthusiasm and supporting one another during drills and matches.

A big thank you to Mr Yin for taking the class and leading the sessions with such dedication and encouragement. His guidance has helped students improve their skills while also making the club fun and engaging. We also greatly appreciate Mrs McIlroy for taking the photos and capturing some fantastic moments from the sessions. The photos really showcase the effort, teamwork, and enjoyment happening each week.

If there are any students that would like to join the Rowville Eagles (U8-U10), please contact:

Yin Zhang (Jason) on 0433410209 or Jasonfalcon03@gmail.com

Thank you

Thanks to Miss Kang who has finished her placement with us. We wish you all the best in your future teaching journey.

Grade 1/2A:

Literacy

Continuing with our wonderful Little Learners program, Grade 1 students have been busy learning r-controlled vowel sounds including ar, or, ir, ur, and er. Grade 2 students have been focussing on new prefixes and suffixes including ed, pre, re, and -ure.

In Writing, we have had a strong focus on different types of words, and students have been learning about verbs being action words and how nouns are the names of people, places, animals, and things. They have also been practising differentiating between common and proper nouns. Our text type focus this term is procedural texts, and students have been identifying the key features and practising organising and sequencing steps within a text.

Maths

We have just wrapped up our big addition and subtraction unit for the term. Students had been learning and practising a range of different strategies. Grade 1 students have been focussing on using counting on and back, friends of ten, and doubles to solve addition and subtraction questions within 20. Grade 2 students have been extending to use partitioning, bridging, and compensation strategies to solve equations within and beyond 100.
