Latest News | University guest speakers

Over the past fortnight, students have had the opportunity to hear from representatives of the University of Tasmania and the Australian National University. Rhiannon Markell's presentation to Years 9–12 explored pathways into medicine, giving students valuable insight into study options and entry requirements.

Year 11 and 12 students also met with Christian Fobister from ANU, who outlined the university as a potential study destination, highlighted their direct‑entry program (now open for applications) and shared information about available scholarship opportunities.

Nominations are now open for the October 2026 intake of the Tasmania Police Career Development Program.

Aimed at Year 12 students with a strong interest in pursuing a career as a police officer, the program offers an immersive, five‑day experience at the Tasmania Police Academy.

Students will gain firsthand insight into the expectations of a trainee police officer and participate in key components of the recruitment process, including the Tasmania Police entry fitness assessment and online examinations.

Students who successfully meet these requirements may progress to an interview and potential inclusion in a future Recruit Training Course upon completion of Year 12.

Year 12 students interested in participating are encouraged to contact Mrs Lucy Paske at lpaske@smc.tas.edu.au for further information.

The program is free of charge and will run from Sunday 4 October to Friday 9 October 2026.
