Feona (Year 11)

Feona Jobi Cheri (Year 11), who has been awarded the Cameron Baird VC MG Scholarship for 2026. Feona submitted a piece of poetry entitled Aspire to Inspire, which was the motto of Corporal Cameron Baird, whose name the competition honours. For her winning entry, Feona has received a scholarship of $2,500 to be used for educational purposes.

This is a wonderful accomplishment, Feona, and you should be very proud. Below is a short excerpt from Feona's poem.

Aspire to Inspire

It's like saying,

"I survived, so can you.

Even if the world tries to swallow you whole."

It means choosing

to be a lighthouse

In a world full of night,

even if the lighthouse is cracked,

abandoned,

lonely

and tired from holding back the black ocean.

I do not dream of being adored.

Adoration is a dungeon

with velvet bars

I dream of being understood

by someone reading my story

and whispering,

"OH! I thought I was the only one."

Aspire to Inspire

If I inspire,

Let it be in that way,

the way thunder inspires rain,

the way shadows inspire light,

to try harder.

Aspire to Inspire

I aspire to inspire with every step I take,

a walking burst of colour in a world that feels

opaque.

Polka dot stockings dancing, bright patterns

never cease.

I wear my own creation, my confidence, my peace.

Aspire to Inspire

And the clock ticks

one second

at a time.

Aspire to Inspire,

and the world changes

one heart

at a time.

Amber Morrisby (Year 9) – our future Matilda in the making, who will be representing Tasmania at the 2026 CommBank Emerging Matildas Championships in Melbourne. Being selected for the U15 and U16 teams is a fantastic testament to the hard work, commitment and talent Amber has invested in her sport, and we're proud to see her earn her spot on the national stage. The championships will be held at the Home of the Matildas in Bundoora. Good luck, Amber, and wear the green and gold with pride!

Evelyn Fraser (Year 4), who qualified for seven events in the 2026 Aquatechnics Junior State Championships, held at Perth's High Performance Centre from 28–29 March.

Facing strong competition in the nine-years age group, Evelyn placed inside the top six in five of her seven events and achieved four personal best times.

Evelyn secured silver medals in both the 200-metre freestyle and the 200-metre individual medley, added a bronze medal in the 50-metre freestyle and finished fourth in the 100-metre freestyle.
