Ranges TEC

Over the past four weeks, our Year 10 students completed their 4WD shovels as part of the Engineering Taster course.
This was intentionally a 'rough-and-ready' project, focusing on practical fabrication skills rather than precision measurements. Students used a plasma cutter to create the blade profile, fabricated the handle and extension pieces, and welded all components together.
To finish, they heated the blade to red hot, shaped it, and then quenched it in oil.
A great project that gave students experience with cutting, fabrication, welding, and heat treatment processes while creating a useful finished product. 🔧🔥🚙
