Year 10 Life Skills

Discovery Community Care Excursion

On the 27th of May the Year 10 Life skills class went on an exciting excursion to Discovery Community Care in Mount Evelyn.

Discovery Community Care (DCC) supports people experiencing crisis and social isolation in the Yarra Valley and surrounding suburbs. Their vision is creating spaces where people can belong, share and contribute in meaningful ways.

Discovery Community Care receives donations from local food stores and provides it for people in need.

Tiani a DCC member took us down to the DCC shed where food is stored and sorted before it is placed in the Community house. She gave us a tour around the property, and we had the opportunity to sort through the food and keep the adequate items. Some of us went into the house and helped dry and pack away dishes as well as talk to some DCC Elders while others peeled pears, and stacked shelves.

Altogether, helping others and practically supporting DCC in their service in the Mount Evelyn Community was an amazing experience.

I learned that helping and serving others doesn’t just benefit them but is also fulfilling for myself.
