Message from our Principal
Karen Harris
Principal
We have had a busy term (as usual!) with a number of events and celebrations taking place. As we close the term, I wish everyone a safe and happy holiday break.
Senior School
Year 12 students have completed their final assessments in each of their subjects and finish the term with a week of practice exams (VCE). VCE Vocation Major students are working towards their final showcase and we look forward to their presentations. It is a peak time for Year 12 students who, no doubt, will be looking forward to a change of pace during the holiday period. Planning for Year 12 cohort's final week next term is well underway and our Graduation event will be held on October 15.
VYLC Program
Recently I had the pleasure of celebrating the achievements of our eight Year 9 Victorian Young Leaders to China students. To mark the end of the program, we travelled to Chinatown to enjoy lunch at a Chinese restaurant.
The Victorian Young Leaders to China Program is an intensive language program conducted online and hosted by Beijing Language & Culture University (BLCU). Year 9 students who are studying Chinese may choose to opt-in to the program to extend and enhance their language and cultural studies at BSC.
Ritz Bejoc, Isabella Carr, Greta Drimmel, Rowan Drimmel, Tristan Ingham, Nathan Lui, Alkina Myers and Eric Winters all demonstrated great enthusiasm for and commitment to the program and the opportunities it brought them. Throughout the experience, they were very well supported by Jiawen Qu (Teacher - Chinese Mandarin).
At our celebratory lunch our students were encouraged to utilise their Chinese language skills when ordering their food - and they did a great job. Well done to them all!

Parent acknowledgements
The Parent's Association annual Trivia Night was a fabulous event, with over 200 parents in attendance. Together they raised an extraordinary $15000.
I would like to acknowledge some of the parents who are working tirelessly for the benefit of the school.
In regard to the Trivia Night and Silent Auction, key parents driving the event included Alison Berry (parent of Ash and Felix Berry), Mel Pagliaro (parent of Ella Pagliaro), Tracey Talko (parent of Hamish, Liv and Cohen Talko), Peter Parberry (parent of Ruby and Marlow Parberry) and Claudia Martinez (parent of Maria Cull). The fabulous Quizmaster was Adrian Threlfall (parent of Matthew and Ben Threlfall).
The two parents who have significantly influenced the fundraising efforts over the past two years with a vision to improve our buildings and grounds are Sonia Ingham (parent of Tristan Ingham) and Rosie Nicholson (parent of Ruby and Milla Ruse). We are also being advised by some parents who have architectural and/or landscaping background and they are Ed Berry (parent of Ash and Felix Berry), Cleo Cregan (parent of Harlan and Ettie Hutchings) and Martin Reeves (parent of Hugo and Lily Reeves)
We are very fortunate to have such a talented and dedicated group of parents working with us.
Beyond Brunswick
It is always wonderful to hear news of our alumni. Ryan Wu (School Captain 2022) competed in the 2024 Fine Food Australia Bake Skills Baking Championship. We are thrilled to report that Ryan performed exceptionally well, winning the competition in the Bread Division. Read about his adventures in this issue.
Congratulations, Ryan!
