Celebrating the Performing Arts at BSC

Emily Lynch

Year10

Performing Arts Captain

Performing Arts week is one of my favourites of the whole year – and this year was no different!

Battle of the Bands

BSC’s favourite was back for another round this year! During Performing Arts Week, we had bands from across the school compete against each other for the win.

The Altoids:   Edith, Sara, Breanna, and Pelchen playing Take Me Away (by Christina Vidal)

Exponential Rice:  Emily, Saskia, Lucia, Oscar, Will, Asha and Alex playing One Way Or Another (by Blondie)

Are you Sure?:  Elsie Kowarsky, Cloe and Hannah playing Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is (by Ella Red)

Carelessly Catastrophic The Resurrection:   Zoe, Sienna, Julia, Neko, Aoife, Anoushka playing Zombie  (by The Cranberries)

It was a tight competition! All the songs sounded great, which made it very hard for the judges to choose their winners.

First place:     Carelessly Catastrophic: The Resurrection

Runners up:   Exponential Rice

Best Solo:       Julia’s guitar solo in Zombie

Best Vibe:      Exponential rice

Battle of the Bands is an amazing event for our school’s many musicians to show off their talent. They have spent their lunchtimes rehearsing steadily in the lead up to the competition, and their hard work definitely payed off! I was so impressed by all the different performers, and I can’t wait for them to share their music with us in the years to come!

Performing Arts Gala

Our incredible Performing Arts Gala was staged earlier this term. This is an event that our musicians, singers and actors have been preparing for since the start of the year!

This showcase projected the incredible talents of students at BSC, and left audience members cheering and clapping after every performance. Our instrumental music students played in their ensembles including the Choir, Percussion Ensemble and String Ensemble, as well as our TheatreSports team.

VCE students presented some previews to their music and drama solos – which you can watch later this year! The Performing Arts Gala showcased the large range of instrumental tuition that we offer at school, with every performer playing at their best. I bet next year will be even better!

Thank you

A big thank you to all the teachers who assisted us putting this show on. We wouldn’t have been able to do it without you! Thanks to the parents who drove their kids to school on a Wednesday night, and to the students from the AV Crew team team who helped with setting up and packing up the theatre.
