Eclipse House News

Term Three is flying by and Eclipse House is running smoothly with a lot of fun being had along the way. In the last Boarding Buzz, I included our term focus of four agreements. With 16 young men all with different life experiences this provided some healthy conversation, questioning and debating. At times some boys gravitated away from the concepts and agreements, while others were happy to lean into them and give them a go. Two of these agreements have been on show in the first seven weeks. Be impeccable with your words and always do your best. Examples of these have been each boy’s ability to show integrity within their day-to-day routines and commitment to their individual passions and pursuits. Their level of communication with staff and each other is high and they hold themselves to their word. As we move into the remainder of the term, and for our Year Twelves their last few weeks, I have posed one final concept for them to think about.

What are you proud of?

In a week, we often get caught up in the fast-paced nature of boarding life, people to see, appointments to make, schoolwork to complete, and sport to master. Asking this simple question will allow us to reflect on what we have achieved and what we have completed well. Maybe we are proud of someone close to us, or proud of a community we are a part of. This level of reflection can bring joy to an individual’s day and most importantly a celebration of individual achievement. Over the remainder of the term, I aim to share insights with you that the boys in Eclipse are happy to share.

Birthdays

This month we celebrate Henry Smith who turned 16 on 12 August.

Happy birthday and best wishes to you Henry!

Year Ten Work Experience

Last week our Year Tens enjoyed a week away from school and immersed themselves in a work environment of their choice. I have enjoyed hearing all the different stories and experiences they have had. I congratulate all Year Tens on their willingness and positive mind set for the week.

Year Twelve Boarding Farewell Dinner

On Tuesday 10 September we will be holding a special dinner for our departing Year Twelve boarders. We will come together to celebrate their time in boarding at GSG. We have planned for some delicious food in Eclipse and Breaksea, and it will be an enjoyable evening. The theme for the evening is semi–formal sustainable fashion. I look forward to sharing photos and stories of the evening.

Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
