Anchorage House News

As we pass the halfway mark in our academic term the house is busy with boys understanding their course content and in the thick of Winter Sport windups, celebrations and finals for the chosen few. Clearly, if you support the Fremantle Dockers, you now have your weekends back, along with the Albany Sharks and Swans. The Royals have a chance to win the 2024 premiership and those boys in the house who are still in the competition are up and about. The worst of the Albany weather seems to be with us at the moment and we have lost a few boys to the dreaded flu over the last few weeks.

Activities around the house over the last few weeks have been spike ball, riding bikes and scooters, modified football between the houses, Ping-Pong and skateboard riding. Over the weekends the boys have had a lot of activities including fishing and swimming at ALAC.

We have a new staff member joining our boarding supervisor team in Anchorage House. Ms Saoirse Powell-Casey who is taking over from Mr Nelson Stanborough. Nelson enjoys working with our Anchorage Boys and has a great rapport with our boys but he has coaching commitments for the remainder of the term.  Saoirse lives on-site in the Michaelmas unit, and I am excited about what she can bring to our boarding community. Often, in boarding conversations, we talk about integrity and resilience, having a new staff working in our house gives our boys the opportunities to develop and adjust to change and develop these character traits. The boys have been great at welcoming her into our house and I look forward to seeing them develop and continue to build trust and respect with our staffing group.

We have some very talented boys in the house Leo Cunningham and Harrison Woithe are playing off a handicap of 2, Billy Hams and Nicholas Hams are off 4, while others talk a big game, notably, tournament level big game!!
