Save the date!  The annual Boarding Forum will be held on Friday 20 September.  More details to come soon.

Newdegate Machinery Field Days

As Principal Mr Mathew Irving continues his roadshow through the regions, his next meeting will be at the Newdegate Machinery Field Days.

Please drop by and say hello at the Great Southern Grammar stand in the Family Interest Pavilion, or join him and Head of Boarding, Mr Ashley Keatch, for a Sundowner at the Plough & Tractor (Footy Bar) from 4.00pm on Wednesday 4 September to connect and share stories.

Baudin Pink Day

Baudin has their annual Pink fundraising/dress up day for Breast Cancer research on Thursday 12 September. Students can wear pink items for the day and bring a gold coin for the fundraiser. There is also a cake stall at recess, so students should bring a few extra coins for a yummy treat.

Cooking Up a Storm

The boarders were all keen for a cooked breakfast this week, which saw them lining up for Chef Nick Harvey to make his famous omelettes.  Thanks to Chef Nick!

Boarding Apparel

At the ABSA Boarding Conference in Canberra, we connected with a representative from Boarding Apparel Co.  Through this connection we have some samples for our boarders to trial.  The most popular option was the hooded towel with name embroidered on the back for $65.00. They are very comfy, made from velour and terry towelling in a one size fits most as you will see from our Years Seven and Nine models, James Waldron and Craig Wiech.  They are great for throwing on after being in the shower or at the beach.  If you would like to purchase one of these towels for your child, please complete the Cognito form here

Women in Farming Annual Seminar

This week, I had the privilege of attending the Women in Farming conference with Principal, Mr Mat Irving and Community Relations Manager, Mrs Julia Bairstow. Women in Farming is an organisation that is proudly sponsored by Great Southern Grammar. Established in Varley in 2009 by our very own Anna-Lisa Newman, with 14 branches in Western Australia, this organisation is open to any woman with links to rural or agricultural related businesses.  Through sharing ideas, they are committed to improving knowledge and management of farm businesses.

Held in the dynamic community of Kulin, the Kulin Bush Races was celebrated by the creation of tin horses for table decorations in honour of the Tin Horse Highway that leads into Kulin.  Attendees had the opportunity to purchase the tin horses throughout the day.

With the theme of 'Embrace the Journey', the list of speakers for the day included:

  • Mandy Matthews: Agvocate
  • Keryn Tyson: Women's Health
  • Steven Bolt: Livestock Collective
  • Fiona Palmer: Author
  • Josie Thomson: The Rural Movement
  • Gen & Ben Whisson: Cambodia House Building - Kulin Initiative
  • Donna Spurgeon: Rural West
  • Graeme Robertson: Kulin Bush Races

Several of the stories shared had a real focus on mental health and the things we tell ourselves in our own heads, which I believe resonated with many who attended.  On that note, I would like to leave you with some quotes that were shared from these stories which I felt were inspirational and worth thinking about:

  • I Do Enough
  • I Am Enough
  • I Can Do Amazing Things
  • Don't Give Up
  • Make Peace with Your Past
  • Don't Compare
  • Avoid Negativity
  • Be Kind to Yourself
  • Smile
  • Understand Your Why
  • Find the Humour
