Hands on Learning

Hands on Learning is about more than practical projects. Every session gives students the opportunity to develop important skills for life.   Through building, gardening and working on projects, students practise teamwork, communication, problem solving, planning, perseverance and responsibility. They also develop skills in following instructions, using tools safely, measuring and calculating and working independently.  These are valuable skills that students can use both at school and beyond.

Father’s Day Toolbox

Hands on Learning students have created some fantastic, handcrafted toolboxes for Father’s Day!   From planning and measuring to constructing and finishing, students have put their practical skills to work and created something unique to gift to their dads or a special person in their lives.  These toolboxes showcase the value of Hands on Learning, developing skills in creativity, problem-solving and accuracy.  Well done to our students on their fantastic work and the skills they have demonstrated throughout the process!  We’re sure the dads and special people receiving these gifts will love them, knowing they were made with plenty of care, effort and love.

Cooking

In Hands-on Learning, students love getting into the kitchen, developing their cooking skills and enjoying breakfast and lunch together. Recently, we have been busy preparing a delicious range of meals, including fluffy pancakes, spaghetti bolognese, burgers, nachos, pizza scrolls, ham and cheese toasties and scrambled eggs. It has been fantastic to see students building their confidence, trying new recipes and taking pride in what they create.

Mini Book Nooks

Our old book nooks have had a fresh new look, and mini book nooks have now been created in every room in H-Wing!  As part of our Independent Reading Program, these mini book nooks make it easier for students to choose a book that interests them and have a range of reading options readily available in their classroom.  We’re excited to see students exploring the new spaces, discovering new books and building their confidence and enjoyment as independent readers!

Gardening

Spring is here, which means it’s time to get planting!   Our students have been busy getting their hands dirty and planting a variety of seeds, including cucumbers, beans, lettuce, carrots and spring onions.  We’ve also planted a passionfruit vine, which we’re hoping will grow over the new arch at our front entrance and create a welcoming green feature for our students, families and visitors to enjoy.  We’re looking forward to watching our plants grow and, hopefully, enjoying some of the produce along the way!
