Yarning Circle Space – Reminder! 

A reminder of our wonderful Yarning Circle space at Lilydale Heights College.   Our Yarning Circle provides a welcoming and culturally respectful space where First Nations students can come together to talk, share, connect and yarn. The space also provides opportunities for all students to learn about and engage with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures across a range of subjects and learning experiences.  We would like to acknowledge and thank Chris from Entire Excavations for helping create the space by placing the rocks within our Yarning Circle, as well as our Hands-on Learning students who installed the Yarning Circle and Bush Tucker Garden signs. A special thank you also goes to Sam from Gecko Signs in Lilydale for bringing the signage designed by Miss Moschetti to life.  We are proud to have a space that celebrates First Nations culture, encourages connection and supports learning across our whole school community. We encourage students and staff to make use of this space respectfully and continue to build their understanding and appreciation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures.

First Nations Captain – Applications are Open!

Our First Nations Captain will play an important role in supporting and celebrating First Nations culture across our school. The First Nations Captain will have opportunities to help lead cultural activities and events, support our Koorie students, promote inclusivity and reconciliation and work alongside staff and students to strengthen our school community.   Everyone is welcome to apply! You do not need to be a First Nations student to apply. We welcome applications from all students, including both First Nations and non-Indigenous students who have an interest in First Nations culture, reconciliation, leadership and making a positive contribution to our school.    If you think you could be a positive role model and help make a difference, we encourage you to put your hand up and apply by the due date!
