Blue Group have been engaging in child led activities, one of these activities was to make an indoor sandpit. Children led this experience as they discussed the best way to collect the sand and bring it inside. The children decided where the sandpit should be located, they discussed many options but decided it would be best to be on the lino floor so it would be easy to sweep up. The children then worked in teams to collect buckets and wheelbarrows full of sand and bring them inside. As this was a child led experience the children took control of the area. They decided it was safe to have only 3 children in this area at a time, to have brooms around the area to sweep up sand that had spilled from the area and even asked for the vacuum so they could clean up any sand that had traveled to the carpet. There are many benefits to this activity, the children learnt to work together, make a plan, think about safety and discuss risk mitigation strategies and developed a sense of ownership in the environment.
