Engagement & Wellbeing

Resilience, Rights & Respectful Relationships:
The students in 1/2 Mac recently took part in a thoughtful and engaging activity focused on kindness and friendship. Building on their earlier role-play experiences, students were encouraged to reflect on acts of kindness they had seen or been a part of.
To begin, students closed their eyes and thought about a time when they showed kindness to a classmate or family member. Some were able to recall real experiences, while others used their imagination to think about kind acts they would like to do in the future. They then shared their ideas with a partner before some students shared their reflections with the whole class. This provided a wonderful opportunity to practise active listening, with students building on each other’s ideas and deepening their understanding of kindness.
Students discussed how it can feel to be kind to others, as well as how it feels when kindness is shown to them. Many thoughtful responses were shared, highlighting feelings such as happiness, pride, and a sense of connection.
Following this, each student created a drawing that represented a kind act they had been involved in. Some students were able to add a caption or short story to explain their picture, showcasing their understanding of the importance of kindness.
The activity concluded with a circle time session, where students proudly shared their work with the class. It was wonderful to see students supporting one another and celebrating the positive impact that small acts of kindness can have on others.
Over the past term, we have been working hard to establish positive routines and clear classroom expectations. Students have been learning about our School Values of Respect, Responsibility and Resilience, and exploring what these look like in both the classroom and the playground.
In Prep Dunn this week, we have continued to discuss further our School Value, Responsibility. We spoke about what this value looks like both in and out of the classroom. We discussed why it is important for us to be responsible at school, and all shared a time we were Responsible.
We all showed a high level of responsibility when walking to and from cross country.
Prep Dunn also achieved our first whole class GuGu reward. We voted to have a pyjama day on Wednesday. Because it was April Fools, we also pranked the principals into thinking we slept over at school! We had such a great (and comfortable) day!
This week our SRC has been working hard running their 'pop up shop' before and after school. It has been a roaring success. Thank you so much to all of the students and families who have supported our SRC with this initiative. It has been a lot of fun playing shopkeepers!
At last count, the SRC has raised approximately $700 with one day of sales still to go!
