Principal Area Forum

This week I attended the North Western Principal Area Forum with Principals from over 350 schools. This is a great opportunity to hear the most up to date news from our Regional Director including the pleasing NAPLAN results of both Victoria and our Region. This also provided me with an opportunity to reflect on our strong NAPLAN results. As a small school our results can vary from year to year however, the results of the past few years have all seen a large number of students in the strong and exceeding bands of NAPLAN.

There was also a focus on the evolving role of Principals in schools today. This was an excellent chance to reflect on my time as Principal at Bridgewater Primary School which I have thoroughly enjoyed.

Finally, today was World Principal's Day and I would like to thank all of the staff and students who showed their appreciation this week.

Active Schools

We have started to ramp up the use of our Active Schools Grant money we were able to secure last year. Below are just the first of several changes you might notice around the school, with more to come!

Some cool Berg Bikes for the students to play with at lunch. I tested out the larger model after school today and can confirm these are a great fun and will help us stay fit and active!

The rotunda has been renovated and turned into a cubby play space to promote outdoor play for all ages.

Book Week

This year Raywood Primary School will be joining us for a special Book Week Celebration!

Please note that there has been a change of date for the day due to a conference for Mrs Ree's. The new date is Friday 21st August so time to start getting your costumes ready!

L.C.D.S.S.A Athletics Day

The Loddon Calder District School Athletics Carnival will be held on Tuesday 11th August 2026. Students from our school will be competing against students from Inglewood PS, St. Mary's PS, Marong PS, Lockwood PS, Lockwood South.

Parents are to make their own travel arrangements to get students to the Lar Birpa Athletics Complex which is located at 58 Retreat Rd, Flora Hill VIC 3550. If you have trouble making your own travel arrangements please contact Mr. Lehane.

What to Bring

School Bag with lunch and drink bottle (please ensure extra food as students will be hungry from increased activity levels and the cold weather)
Plenty of warm clothing
Comfortable clothing to complete in
Sports Uniform (White School Polo, black shorts/pants and red jumper)
Optional Hat or Sunscreen

Arrival Times

9.15am Students in Grade's 3-6 who want to participate in the optional 800m event
9.30am 800m
9.45am All students to be at Athletics' track.
10.00am Rotations for all students start.

The Smile Squad free school dental program is coming to our school

The Smile Squad team from Bendigo Health is coming to our school in the last week of term.

Smile Squad is the Victorian Government’s free school dental program.

This means all students can receive a free dental check-up, preventive services, and treatment at school.

How to access free dental care

We need your consent before we can provide services. Consent is usually provided by a parent or guardian.

Smile Squad oral health packs

All children deserve a healthy smile, and the Smile Squad free school dental program is working hard to help make this happen.

Your child(ren) will soon receive a free oral health pack to bring home. The pack contains a toothbrush, full-sized toothpaste, and an oral health brochure inside a reusable drink bottle. Please take a moment to read the brochure—it is full of useful tips to help your family eat well, drink well, and clean well for life.

Standard strength toothpaste

Smile Squad provides standard-strength fluoride toothpaste, which is generally recommended for ages six and over unless advised otherwise by a dental or trained health professional.

If your child is under six, please speak with a dental or trained health professional to determine whether this toothpaste is suitable. Alternatively, you may choose to put the toothpaste aside until they turn six or give it to another family member.

Do I need to attend my child’s appointment?

No, you do not need to attend your child’s appointment. You are welcome to attend if you wish, and you can choose to take your child to a community dental clinic if that suits your family better.
